My response to colour is the contextual and emotional effect of light on the retina. I use geometry as a system of proportion, based on the medieval rectangle found in cathedral building to explore pattern rhythm and repetition. The pieces have either curved 3D surfaces or use the circle as image, the curve defines the edge the place where the inner becomes the outer. I see pattern as the subtle underlying influence on all  physical matter.

Shapes of paper are cut, glued and layered to make forms. Pigments are applied raw - this enhances the purity of colour and texture of the material. These pieces hold and reflect light. The gaps and cuts between the forms allow the viewer to see behind the surface and emphasise depth. The layers, analogous of strata in geology also reflect levels of feeling within the inner self, referring to the passing of time, the point between dreaming and waking where the life of the mind meets the physical world.

I also now work photographically, producing montages exploring both the natural world and the world of emotional gesture.
