Phil Rutter’s photographs of urban night time landscapes make cities look magical. Using long exposure the images have intensity and depth. Even the functional, concrete environment of Heathrow is transformed by Rutter’s eye.
Statement
Between Foundation & studying for my degree I had several years off when I travelled and worked at various jobs, always continuing to take photographs. Throughout my time at university I experimented but always found myself going back to architecture and urban settings, concentrating ultimately on the nightscapes series. I am interested in capturing light and particularly that which comes into play at night time in urban settings when buildings and spaces are transformed.
Since leaving university I have pursued avenues for commissions, and most successfully some photographs of the newly refurbished bandstand in Clapham Common have gained interest from Lambeth Borough Council.
