The Louise T. Blouin Institute in west London which opened in October 2006 is a beautiful new cultural space in a converted 1920s coachworks.
The 35,000 sq ft of space which will provide a showcase for established and emerging contemporary artists and performance art, and provide a base of operations for the Louise T Blouin Foundation. The Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, is dedicated to ‘promoting the art and science of creativity in pursuit of international enlightenment’.
The launch show features the work of James Turrell and the building will feature a permanent installation by Turrell that makes the façade into a huge light artwork. The building’s 80 external windows are lit from the inside controlled by a DMX programmer, resulting in an ever-changing artwork on the outer surface of the Institute. Sitting, on a late winter afternoon in the café, housed in a glass extension, was a special treat.
